PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT – 10 MONTH

John Archer School

 

To provide physical therapy, under the direction of a licensed physical therapist, to students with educational disabilities as approved by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) Team.

DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIES

INCLUDE

       Serves as an itinerant therapist assistant, working under the direction of a physical therapist, of students with a documented educational disability and as a consultant to teachers, parents, administrators and others as appropriate.

       Provides current and accurate data to the licensed physical therapist to assist with the development of IEP/IFSP’s.

       Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist:

a.          Provides physical therapy services to students with an approved IEP/IFSP.

b.         Provides consultative services to parents, teachers, school staff, administrators, transportation staff, and others as appropriate.

c.          Consults with physicians and outside agencies; shares information with teachers, administrators, and school health staff as appropriate.

       Maintains accurate records and completes required special education forms.

       Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

 

 

SALARY

 

Starting Salary for HCEA ($44,346).

May increase with additional education and experience.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

       Hold or be eligible for a Maryland license as a physical therapist assistant from the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH).

       Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

       Able to collaborate with school-based staff.

       Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
