SUMMER PROGRAM – TEAM NURSE

Internal for HCPS Employees

 

To be responsible for assisting assigned students maximize their learning potential by promoting optimum health; assists in the management of the health services program and health suite as assigned.

 

DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIES

INCLUDE

          Provides direct care to assigned students, including all assessments, first-aid/emergency care, prescribed medications, and treatments.

          Ensures that all needed equipment needed for student is available and in working order prior to leaving students home.

          Assists in the provision of long-term management of assigned students, including the creation and implementation of individualized health care plans.

          Reports changes in assigned students’ health care status to the school nurse.

          Complies with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations; delivers care in an ethical and confidential manner.

          Assists in the maintenance of required health records for assigned students; utilizes the school system computer program to document care or approved log/data sheets.

          Maximizes the quantity of time in class by reducing the incidence of health related absenteeism; assists in the promotion and maintenance of desirable student attendance practices.

          Assists the school nurses in providing screenings and referrals for health conditions including, but not limited to, vision and hearing screenings.

          Assists in the promotion of a healthy school environment by ensuring compliance with state mandates, including immunizations, and lead and physical examinations; follows-up as necessary.

          Ensures appropriate exclusion for infectious illnesses and reports communicable diseases as required by law.

          Provides information to students in an effort to promote health.

          Serves as a liaison between school staff, families/caregivers, healthcare professionals and the community.

          Works in collaboration with the School Nurse who serves as the health expert on student services, 504 and IEP teams.

          Assists in the management of health services programs and the health suite as assigned.

          Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

            Successful completion of an approved nursing program with a valid degree or diploma.

            Hold and maintain a valid license from the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

            Hold and maintain current CPR certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Providers) or the American Red Cross (CPR for the Professional Rescuer).

            Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to effectively communicate with students, school staff, and families/caregivers.

            Ability to lift fifty pounds.

            Proficient in the use of computer technology including Microsoft Office Suite software programs.
