PROGRAM INFORMATION
The Growing Exceptional Teachers (GET) Through TAM Program is an internal grow your own recruitment program that provides hiring incentives to Harford County Public Schools graduating seniors who have gone through one of our Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM) programs. The purpose of this agreement is to demonstrate HCPS’ commitment to our students who participated in an HCPS TAM program and offer guaranteed employment in a teaching position in HCPS upon successful completion of a traditional teacher preparation program at the collegiate level.
ELIGIBILITY
- Open to graduating high school seniors in an HCPS TAM program with a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 who plan to attain their teacher certification at an Institute of Higher Education.
- Participants must provide proof of enrollment into a teacher preparation program. (a copy of an acceptance letter to the HCPS Human Resources Department)
- Applicants must have the endorsement of their TAM Supervising Teacher confirming they meet the criteria of the program.
CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH HCPS
- Student in good academic standing with the college at time of college graduation
- Successful evaluation of college supervisor during student teaching internship
- Follow up screening interview with HCPS Human Resources in Spring/Summer prior to start of senior year in college (prior to starting student teaching internship)
OPTIONAL SUPPORTS DURING AND FOLLOWING RECEIPT OF TEACHING DEGREE
- A member of the HCPS team will check-in with the student at least two times during each academic year and provide informal mentorship.
- The student may request to be a substitute teacher for HCPS during the school year as their schedule permits. (Students can start substitute teaching as early as the fall of 2023 – if interested, please contact Shannon.Hagan@hcps.org)
- An employment interview with the student will occur between the spring of the Junior year and fall of the Senior year of college. Successful candidates will receive an open contract for employment with HCPS upon graduation from college.
- New hires will receive experience credit for participation in the Growing Exceptional Teachers Through TAM program, including advanced placement on the salary schedule for a teacher.
